Products of the Subcommittee on Ground Water are created
through its work groups. All work groups are accepting volunteers.
Please contact the work group leaders listed below for more information.
Monitoring Inventory
Purpose: The work group will gather information
on the policies, programs, and funding for the collection, analysis,
assessment, distribution, reporting, and use of ground-water
data at all levels of government and in the private sector. The
work group should form two subgroups: one to inventory
ground water quantity monitoring programs and one to inventory
ground water quality monitoring programs.

Data Standards and Data Management
Purpose: The Work Group will review products
and activities of ACWI or ACWI subgroups and their predecessors
relevant to ground-water data storage and retrieval. The
Work Group will address consistency of data storage, and data
retrieval in order to facilitate data sharing. The Work
Group will draft recommendations for methods to archive and access
ground-water data on a national scale.

Field Practices
Purpose: The Work Group will review products
and activities of ACWI or ACWI subgroups and their predecessors
relevant to ground-water data acquisition. The Work Group will
develop recommendations to address data collection techniques,
documentation of and standardization for these techniques, frequency
of data collection, and well instrumentation, in order to facilitate
data sharing.

National Monitoring Design
Purpose: Develop a draft national framework
for ground-water monitoring and collaboration that will assist
in assessments of the quantity of U.S. ground-water reserves,
as constrained by ground water quality. In developing the
draft, the work group will also consider ground-water-quality
monitoring in order to help determine water-quality-related constraints
on supply and use, and for helping assess potential ecological
impacts caused by changes in ground-water quantity and quality.
Additionally, the work group will develop recommendations for
a monitoring design that can provide a status of the Nation’s
ground-water resource, how it has changed over time, and how
it may change in the future The work group will review products
and activities of ACWI or ACWI subgroups and their predecessors
relevant to ground-water monitoring.
