Subject:  PUBLICATIONS--Release of a new report entitled
                        "Documentation of a graphical display
                        program for the saturated-unsaturated
                        transport (SUTRA) finite-element simulat-
                        ion model" by William R. Souza

The subject report has recently been approved and printed as
Water-Resources Investigations Report 87-4245.  Copies are being
sent under separate cover to all District offices, State offices,
and some Subdistrict offices.

The report documents a graphical display program for the U.S.
Geological Survey saturated-unsaturated transport (SUTRA) finite-
element simulation model (Voss, 1984).  Graphic features of the
program, SUTRA-PLOT, include:  (1) plots of the finite-element
mesh (2) velocity vector plots (3) contour plots of pressure,
solute concentration, temperature, or saturation and (4) a finite-
element interpolator for gridding data prior to contouring.  The
program is menu driven and specifications for individual types of
plots are entered and may be edited interactively.  Installation
instructions, a source code listing, and a description of the
computer code are given.  Six examples of plotting applications
are used to demonstrate various features of the plotting program.

The programs can be obtained from the Northeastern Region Prime
(RVARES) computer by remotely logging in using the following:

            Login SUTRA  - ON  RVARES
            PASSWORD:  SUTRA

Once logged on, instructions are given on how to transfer copies
of both SUTRA-PLOT and the SUTRA model code to the users home
site.

We recommend that this report be made available to all users (or
potential users) of the SUTRA model.  This post processor greatly
facilitates the interpretation of results from the SUTRA finite-
element model.
